Conclusion

This paper has highlighted the various types and significance of Bidayuh traditional dances and there is a need to preserve these dances. It is felt that a more concerted and proactive effort need to be done not only to preserve the existing traditional dances but also to maintain their authenticity. There is an urgent need to popularize the dances amongst the younger generations. Relevant parties such as Dayak Bidayuh National Association, through its Cultural Subcommittee, Branches and Units throughout the state should cooperate with the Village Development and Security Committee at the Bidayuh kampongs to help nurture and promote this rich cultural heritage. In this way, not only will the traditional dance be kept alive, but also be made known to the outside world.

In the final analysis, it is hoped that the observations and recommendations made in this paper will provide some useful insight on how to nurture, promote and maintain the authenticity our traditional dances. If such steps are taken, this will enable the other races in Malaysia in general and the other indigenous communities in Sarawak in particular, be kept informed of the rich Bidayuh cultural heritages.
